Hello everyone!
This week has been exhausting but exciting and fun! =D
Oh my goodnes, Presque Isle is LITERALLY the best area in the mission. It's known for that. (No seriously) The WARD here (not a branch) has around 180 active attending members in the WINTER and during the warmer months it's around 215. O___O
Sister Leak is AMAZING! Ah! I love this girl. =] She is an amazing missionary and person. =] The work is going to go forth "Boldly, nobly, and independant" in Presque Isle with this companionship. ;]
So my past week..
Tues Mar 10- I Had to say goodbye to people. (I just really love New Glasgow) and so I said goodbye to Sister Sweeney and Macdonald really qucikly. They're sweethearts. After that we had a lunch appointment with Sister Spears. It was a great visit and I'm going to miss them bunches. =/
We went knocking in Westville for a little bit. No one was home. -_- So we stopped doing that because it was ineffective. haha We went through our day with are various forms of finding activities and then at 6:30 we went to the Rector's and celebrated their youngest son's 3rd birthday. She made him a firetruck cake. =] It was cute. That family is so much fun. =]
Wednesday Mar 11- We hadn't planned on going to see Sister Rushton today because she lives about 20 minutes away, but she called and invited us out. So we went and we had lunch with her. She also brought out the game crokinole and we played a game of that. They had been saying we would have to try that eventually. And we did! =D After that we did finding. (I never feel the need to elaborate on that because it's just driving around, reading records, calling people, talking to people, etc.) We had a lesson with Theresa today too. OH MY GOODNESS! It's the coolest story ever!
So, her house is kind of noisy and it's difficult to obtain Theresa's undivided attention because of it. Between her little sister, brother, parents and dog, it's difficult. Well, today the dog was especially loud and rowdy. And we were teaching the Restoration and Sister Johnson was leading up to the first vision. And I just kept thinking how this dog is going to disrupt the spirit that we need. So I prayed. I prayed to Heavenly Father to please keep the dog quiet. At that INSTANT the dog dropped it's chew toy and sat down. And the dog didn't move for the rest of the lesson. The power of God is real. I witnessed it. That dog was out of control! (Not exaggerating) and then it just stopped. And because of that, I was able to present the first vision with the power of God. And Theresa felt it. =] It was the most amazing experience of my life. (ok, well, it's at least up there in my top favorites.)
Afterwards we had dinner with Sister Macdonald and said goodbye. Then we left at 7:00 to drive to Dartmouth and stay with the Dartmouth sisters overnight.
Thursday Mar 12- Longest. day. of. my. life.
I woke up at 4:45 today to be at the mission office at 5:50. Then we drove all the way to Amherst and then to Moncton. We got there at 10:00am. Then I met Sister Leak and we drove from Moncton all the way to Presque Isle. We got to Presque Isle at 3:00pm (Canada time) but Maine is only 2 hours ahead of home so we got there at 2:00pm Maine time. We unpacked and settled in and then planned for our day. After that we had to go to the church because there was a baptismal interview for one of the last sister's investigator. Surprise! Come to Presque Isle and we're having a baptism our first Saturday! haha We worked so hard on it too. ;] (not at all)
Friday Mar 13- Longest weekly planning day of my life. Seriously though. (we didn't finish until Saturday) It's pretty much because we were white-washed here (we are both new to the area) and so we had to figure out our lives. (Still are.) But luckily, Sister Leak moved from Houlton Maine and she had been on A LOT of exchanges to Presque Isle and knows a lot of the basics here that are essential to know. This area gets white-washed a lot. We met with a less active named Aimee and also another named Angie. Other than that, our day was just figuring everything out.
Saturday Mar 14- We had a BAPTISM! It doesn't feel like it because we didn't do anything. haha But it was still great! Her name is Sage and she was definitely VERY prepared. After the baptism we contacted some ward council. This ward is insane! Everyone is SO great and on top of things! =D The bishop is in constant contact with us and is always giving us assignments. So have other members of the Ward Council. Wow. We have not had a dull moment yet! We spent a lot of time sorting out those assignments and accomplishing as many as possible and finishing our weekly planning. We also had a dinner appointment at a member's home. After that we went looking for former investigators and the first we met said she wasn't interested but in some ways she seemed interested. So we invited her to General Conference. She seemed interested! She said she was a "show me" type of person. Well, Conference is perfect then! haha But as soon as her husband came home she was "uninterested" again. -_- But after that we met with another one and we had a lesson! And she is a new investigator too! Her name is Winnie and she has studied out a lot of religions but says she is partial to ours. =] Yay. AND then we bumped into another one that was on our list on our way back to our car. It was a good day.
Sunday Mar 15- Sooooooo there are 112 people at church. O_O
Last week in New Glasgow there were 38. I'm feeling the culture shock. hahah I couldn't even ACKNOWLEDGE everyone that was there let alone introduce myself! So. Many. Members. In many ways I am feeling culture shock from being in Maine in general. I'm surprised what is different just from crossing the border. The roads are bigger and there is more open space. (I like that) And the feel here reminds me of home. In some ways, I don't like that. I don't want to remember home right now. I'm not used to American money and I am used to Canadian terms and places. So I am adjusting. Also, weirdest thing for me was that Sister Kylee Bowden came to the baptism because her companion, Sister Smith, was in Presque Isle last transfer and she moved to Houlton. It was really weird because Sister Bowden was talking to me about some things and people from home. It was kind of cool for a minute, but after a while I realized that I really don't want to be remembering that stuff right now. But, like I said, I am adjusting.
Also, church was only an hour today because a HUGE storm hit. Like, wow. Love snow. Getting sick of the ocean dumping on us. haha So we drove home and stayed home. (Except for a member picked us up for a dinner appointment.) And we called a lot of people and finished what we could of bishop's assignments and picked up some new ones from the Young Women's president. It was a very successful night for being snowed in. =]
Today was are going to buy FOOD. The sisters really didn't leave much for us. We've been getting creative with what we have. haha And then a less active that we talked to yesterday invited us to dinner at Bonanza here in Presque Isle. =] Yay. So we'll be there at 6:00 tonight. And then we are going to do some finding to end our night. =]
Today in my personal study I found 2 scriptures that I really liked and wrote them on sticky notes for my wall. (I have recreated the wall I had in New Glasgow. =] haha)
The first was D&C 14:7 and the other was 2 Nephi 2:16
I love you all!
Have a great week!
